A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his younger brother, Mojalefa Mathushe (13), which occurred around August 2019.

Mojalefa Mathushe was reported missing after he left with his elder brother in the early hours of the 30th of August. His brother reported him missing to the police at the beginning of September. An investigation ensued and the victim’s mother was questioned. She informed the police that her elder son told her about his younger brother that is missing, alleging that he does not know where he disappeared to as he was attacked and robbed.

However, his statements were contradictory which led to the intervention of the Station Commander for Khuma, Lieutenant Colonel Patricia Selehelo, who accompanied the investigating team to Ikageng a few days after an inquiry was opened to fetch the brother for further questioning. She (Selehelo) and the team conducted an intensive interrogation on the brother who kept giving misleading and contradicting information on the whereabouts of his brother stating he was at Ext 8, but the visit to the said house drew a blank as the child was not found there.

That is when the elder brother eventually confessed privately to the investigating officer that he wants to show them where he buried his brother. He led the police to Buffel Shaft 10 where he pointed out a shallow grave covered with big stones where the victim was buried. The suspect was arrested immediately on the 07th of October and is expected to make his first appearance before Stilfontein magistrates court on the 09th of October to face a charge on murder.

The investigation continues.
