Sima Mashazi – the leading lady in My Miriam Makeba Story – was nominated for Best Solo Artist at 2019’s WoordTROfees in Stellenbosch. After a successful run at Klein Karoo National Arts Festival (2019) she walked away with the Kanna award for Best Music Production at the festival. This show also had successful runs at the Artscape Heritage Month Festival in Cape Town (2018), the Freestate Arts Festival (2018) and the Suidoosterfees (2019). Festival-goers and residents living in and around Potchefstroom can now experience this Cape-based talent personally and find out why this show is so popular and why it is enjoying so much attention.

Sima Mashazi and pianist Ramon Alexander share the music and life story of Mama Miriam Makeba with their audience. Mashazi’s interpretations of Makeba’s music is top class, sensitive and respectful. She manages to raise a newfound interest in this legendary singer-songwriter and highlights the difficult, yet important work Miriam Makeba did in the South African and international music industries. Sima also introduces the audience to her own original music and there is no doubt that she impresses her audiences all around. Although she has been seen sharing the stage with major South African artists before, this is her first solo production where she takes the audience on her own personal journey. This sure is the best way to experience Sima Mashazi. My Miriam Makeba Story found its origins after Sima played the role of a young Miriam in the South African musical Mama Africa, which toured countrywide and internationally. This experience gave Sima the necessary push to develop her own show which in turn created an exciting launchpad for her as a solo artist.
