According to News24 North West’s Department of Education spend about R 11 million so that matrics in gang afflicted neighbourhoods in the Klerksdorp- area can go and write their exams safely somewhere else.

Elias Malindi, the spokesperson for the North West’s Department of Education, said that the department intervened to house a little more than 2 000 kids from respectively the Kanana-, Khuma- and Jouberton Townships for the duration of the matric exams until the 29th of November.

“It came to our attention that parents from these townships wanted to set up study camps for their kids, because of the high gang-related activities that might disrupt their final exams.”

Mmaphefo Matsemela, MEC for education in the North West, promised parents who have already paid for the camps that they will be reimbursed.

Matsemela appealed to people to leave the learners in peace while they prepare for the exams.
