Rhino poaching accused, Arnelo Mhlanga (39) will appear in the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 12 July to face charges of possession of rhino horns and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The accused was arrested on 2 July between Sun City and Madikwe. He was spotted by game rangers exiting the Pilanesberg Game Reserve in a Mazda bakkie. A car chase ensued and the suspect’s vehicle collided with a tree trunk at Silverkraal.
Police responded and subsequently arrested the accused while two other suspects, who were also in the vehicle, managed to flee and evade arrest. Upon further investigation, six rhino horns, an illegal firearm as well as an axe were found inside the vehicle. Further investigations linked the suspect with a rhino poaching incident that occurred between 30 June and 1 July 2018 at Pilanesberg Game Reserve.
