The City of Matlosana was lit with glitz, glamour, style and absolute splendour as the Platinum Fashion Festival housed and showcased talent and accumulated skill acquired at the North West School of Design.
The North West School of Design was established in 1998 in The City of the people and has in the past 20 years produced remarkable talents such as Neelufer Patel a 2007 graduate working at Edgars as a specialist buyer and Tebogo Mogodoyi who is the owner and designer at Tebjoy designs just to name a few.
In this year’s vibrant and energetic show, various designers and graduates received prestigious awards together with the announcement of the Gert Johan Coetzee Bursary Winners.
Fashion Design Bursary went to Cheline Jenkins from Pietermaritzburg (18years old) and the Fashion Communication Bursary went to Milan Jordan from Bloemfontein (21years old).
Student Award winners are Mpho Khunou, as third Year Designer of the year, Andrea Willow Beyers as second Year Designer of the year, Mbali Mnisi as first Year Best Designer.
Esmirie Greyvensteyn won the third Year Show Stopper Award and Mariska De Jager won the 2nd Year Show Stopper Award.
Patrick Ferguson with Graham Chambwampuru and Caroline Thamaea all shared the first Year Show Stopper Award
The students who worked and did internships for big designers during the year are Jané De Kock, Puseletso Lesao for Kobus Rautenbach and Graham Chambwampuru, Michelle Prinsloo, Mariska De Jager and Esmirie Greyvensteyn for Ernst Schutz. Rowan Strauss for Polo, Mia Koekemoer for Sarie Magazine.
Gert Johan Coetzee gave internships to Andrea Willow Beyers, Xoliswa Kawuleza, Patrick Ferguson, Yaaseen Pinetown. Nadia Du Plessis interned at Highbury Safika Media
Without a doubt, the Principle’s Surprise by Andreia Tomaz had the audience gasping. The gorgeous garments flawlessly tailored left the audience mesmerised and did not disappoint.
