The South African Police Service’s 72-hour activation plan has been key to the recent crime combating successes, Police Minister Bheki Cele said on Tuesday. The police Minister commended the tireless efforts of our men and women in blue as the 72-hour activation plan continues to yield positive results.
Cele said while he is satisfied with the arrests, he was concerned that some dangerous criminals are being granted bail.
“To this end, we are working very closely with the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster to ensure a drastic reduction in the granting of bail to these violent criminals. We are confident that with these interactions, we can secure a more speedy conviction and lengthy sentences in such cases,” he said.
He applauded SAPS’s improved Crime Intelligence Division, saying it is producing sterling work.
