Swift action by the Vryburg K9 and stock theft units led to the arrest of seven suspected rhino poachers.

Five men and two women aged between 32 and 55  were remanded in custody until 22 May  for a formal bail application when they appeared in the Taung Magistrates’ court yesterday. Only one of the accused was granted bail for medical reasons.

The court appearance follows their arrest during a crime intelligence driven operation on Saturday, 13 May. In co-operation with the Vryburg units, the  Provincial Task team and Vorstershoop Visible Policing members followed-up information about suspected rhino poaching planned to take place at a game farm near Mokopong.

A firearm silencer, ammunition, .375 rifle and knives were found in their possession.  The suspects were arrested on charges of possession of unlicensed fire arm and ammunition and conspiracy to commit a crime.
