Hartebeesfontein – A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment following the murder of Simon Evans, 29, which happened at Ext 3 Tigane township. It is alleged the deceased was on his way home from a tombstone unveiling at around 22:00 in April 2017 when he was suddenly attacked and stabbed 5 times from the back. He was seen by a passerby lying in a pool of blood in the street near his family home. He was declared dead on the scene.

The suspect, Papase Frikkie Lottering, was arrested the same day when the police were still busy at the scene through tip-off. The cell phone belonging to the deceased was found in his possession and could not account for it. Lottering was denied bail but the case had to be provisionally withdrawn in January 2018 pending DNA results. He was rearrested in Feb 2018 after the results came back which positively linked him to the case. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced on the 27th Sept 2018 at Klerksdorp regional court. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
